Power & Privilege: Inclusion & Belonging
Hi! My name is Surabhi. A few years ago I started on a path to learn more about power and privilege and how it manifests (or not) within brown bodies. I also wanted to see if the intersection of power and privilege can bring about equity and belonging and how I can embed that in my professional and personal life.
Fast forward a few years and not only do I have a better understanding of these concepts but I can apply them in my life everyday. As a result of all the work I have done, I am far more aware of my privilege now than I was a few years ago and I am actively channeling my privilege to strengthen my allyship leadership model.
Here's what my path is looking like these days:
re-defining what power and privilege mean to me and how I act upon each of them
decolonizing my practices at work, in relationships, in thought processes
deepening my understanding of equity and how I embed that in all aspects of my life
utilizing the power of belonging and ensuring I create spaces for belonging
creating an enabling environment that gives freedom of thought, action, and practices
strengthening my allyship/co-conspiratorship practice
recognizing and addressing my biases, blank spots, and prejudices
